Representatives of the Network Vehicle Association (NVA) in cooperation with the Communications Research Centre (CRC) and CITIG are holding a meeting to explore the advances in broadband networking and how they transform vehicles and mobile communications for First Responders.
The focus will be on LTE (Long Term Evolution) broadband, which runs at rates 10-times faster than what First Responders are experiencing today: downlink speeds of between 510 Mb/s and uplink speeds of 2-5 Mb/s. This is more than enough to exchange high-resolution video from the scene of an incident, for example. LTE marks the first time that a particular technology has been agreed-on by all manufacturers. The NVA has an LTE research network set up and running in Kanata.
NVA is proposing a project around the coming establishment of its Technology Test-Bed. It is creating a high-bandwidth showcase of some 15-kilometres. It will be a practitioner-driven, partner-led project, that will create a Showcase for high-bandwidth use of applications, as a unifying pipeline that could be used to demonstrate applications like interoperability and safety for police, paramedics, firefighters and other first responders.
